Miss Nicaragua Sheynnis Palacios wins Miss Universe 2023 in history-making competition

In a history-making competition, Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua was crowned Miss Universe 2023 on November 17, 2023, at the José Adolfo Pineda Arena in San Salvador, El Salvador. Palacios, 23, is a model and TV host, and she is the first Nicaraguan woman to win the Miss Universe title.

Palacios beat out 83 other contestants from around the world, including Thailand’s Antonia Porsild, who was the first runner-up, and Australia’s Moraya Wilson, who was the second runner-up.

In her final statement on stage, Palacios spoke about the importance of diversity and inclusion. “I believe that beauty comes in all shapes, sizes, and colors,” she said. “I believe that we are all beautiful in our own way, and I want to use my platform to celebrate that.”

Palacios’s victory is a significant moment for Nicaragua, a country that has been struggling with political and economic instability in recent years. “I am so proud to represent Nicaragua on this stage,” Palacios said. “I hope that my victory can bring some hope and joy to my country.”

Palacios’s journey to Miss Universe

Palacios is a graduate of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Nicaragua, where she studied communications. She is also a volunteer for a local charity that helps children with disabilities.
